For the geeks: This traditional natural processed gesha varietal is grown at an altitude of 1909-2063 MASL in the Bench Maji region of Ethiopia. Gesha Village Estate is near the famous Gori Gesha Forest, the birthplace of the sought after gesha varietal and site of the famous 1931 expedition that sourced the seeds which established the now famous Panamanian Gesha varietal.
Gesha is known for it's distinct and complex aromatics, typified by florals and tropical fruits. It's not unusual for people to smell the perfumed aroma from several metres away when these coffees are being ground. In the cup, expect delicate florals, with layers of bright, sweet fruits, underpinned by a bright but pleasant acidity and a clean finish.
This Surma lot is extremely rare and among the top coffees that Gesha Village produces. These types of rare and complex coffees are usually reserved for Barista and Brewers Cup competitions, so it's a real treat to provide access, albeit in very limited quantities, to our customers.
