The coffee for you
Share
The world of coffee is truly huge. There are endless variables that influence the final experience in your cup, including your own preferences. This might be an exciting new world to explore. Or maybe it’s a whole bunch of stuff that’s getting in the way of finding a coffee that suits you. At its heart, it’s all personal.
Before a coffee even gets to the roaster, factors like cultivar (think red delicious apples vs. granny smith), terroir, picking and processing, country of origin, and storage all affect flavour and quality.
Then there’s the impact of the roaster. Different roasters have their own profiles and philosophies, and depending on where you are, these will likely be influenced by your area’s regional “style”. Australian roasters for example tend to roast coffee somewhat lighter than their Italian or Japanese counterparts, but much darker than those from Nordic countries.
So, we’ve got a whole bunch of coffees, from a myriad of origins, roasted by a collection of folks who bring their own thing to the party. And then you have people like yours truly bringing a swag of these roasters and their coffees together for you to select and try. Where do you start?
