One of the Melbourne specialty coffee scene’s innovative newcomers, Caffeine Control Coffee is the brainchild of scene legends and 2013 World Barista Champion, Pete Licata, and his wife Maria.

As the name suggests, Caffeine Control is all about delicious coffees that help customers make an educated choice about tailoring their caffeine intake; which means they have everything from loaded wake-up blends to bespoke decafs and everything in between. 

As a former competitive barista with her own serious industry cred, co-owner, Maria says the experience of pregnancy with her two children gave her a new perspective on caffeine moderation. Meanwhile, head roaster Pete has experienced his share of coffee-induced ups and downs in his journey through competitions and industry career. Together, they developed Caffeine Control to give people insight into how they can utilise caffeine to control their energy levels, feel better, or just enjoy coffee responsibly. 

When describing his roasting style, Pete tells us he puts a focus on balance and body for their espresso beans, while shifting to a lighter style for filter roasts that showcases origin and acidity. Caffeine content aside, Pete’s coffees are also known for their clarity and cleanliness of their roast.
